What Is This Blog About?
Updated: Mar 28, 2018
Hello Unique Individual,
I’m excited that you’re here. I wanted to take a little time to let you know what to expect from future posts of this blog. As stated in the mission statement, Dual Spirit Style, LLC aims to gather a community of unique individuals and give them the confidence to live passionately and unapologetically true in this world. (A unique individual is a phrase I use that includes individuals who are gender non-conforming, intersex, and/or members of the LGBTQ community.)
Ever since the dial-up days of AOL I’ve always used the Internet to search for community, media, and educational resources created for the LGBTQ individual. I still remember the first friend I met in a chat room for lesbian youth. Being able to have conversation with another lesbian teen in a safe space was invaluable to my emotional well being during that time in my life. We are still friends on Facebook today. (If you are reading this, know that I’ve always been appreciative and thankful for all the chat room, instant message, and phone conversations we had during my early teenage years.)
Just as the Internet has grown since that time 20 years ago, the availability of community, representation, and educational resources for the LGBTQI individual has also grown. Unfortunately, this growth has not risen to the level of providing adequate representation and resources that promote an affirming culture for unique individuals in society.
This lack of education and inadequate representation in the media and society at large can often cause unique individuals to feel marginalized. As a result, unique individuals often deal with feelings of isolation, shame, and low self-worth. All of which make it hard to be comfortable and confident in who we are; let alone be unapologetic about our authentic selves.
There is no legitimate reason why unique individuals should be made to feel negatively about who we are. What makes us unique is one of our best qualities. There are also millions of individuals that fall into the LGBT category, so we are not alone. This blog, along with the Facebook discussion group, aims to be a place to help release unique individuals from the chains of gender norms, myths, and oppressive societal constructs that hold us back from our limitless potential.
It’s my belief that in order for one to articulate a truly authentic personal brand to others, they must first know their true self. Therefore, blog posts will not be limited to topics involving personal branding and brand image. Posts will also include topics involving gender & sex education, authentic living, as well as others relevant to the unique individual looking to develop their personal and professional selves. When you have love for yourself and confidence in yourself, the sky is truly the limit. Those feelings are emotions that every person deserves to feel.
Thank you for checking out the blog. Please feel free to share with your friends who may be interested.
